Virtual machines can now include virtual disks greater than 2 Terabytes. Your physical machine must have at least 8 cores with hyper-threading enabled to power on a virtual machine with this configuration. Note: Running Virtual Machines with 16 vCPUs requires that both your host and guest operating system support 16 logical processors. This enables very processor intensive applications to be run in a virtual machine. Virtual Machines can now run with up to 16 virtual CPUs.
New features included in this hardware version: Hardware versions introduce new virtual hardware functionality and new features while enabling VMware to run legacy operating systems in our virtual machines. This version of VMware Player includes VMware hardware Version 10.

A license key for VMware Player can be purchased from the VMware online store. With the release of VMware Player 6 VMware is introducing a commercial version of VMware Player called VMware Player 6 Plus. Deze betaalde variant mag in commerciële omgevingen worden gebruikt en kan ook vm's draaien die met een wachtwoord zijn beveiligd. Nieuw in versie 6.0 is onder meer Player Plus. Daarnaast kunnen verschillende voorgeïnstalleerde virtual machines via deze pagina worden binnengehaald, zoals Debian, Ubuntu en Fedora. Ook de virtual machines van Microsoft Virtual PC en Symantec LiveState Recovery-disks worden ondersteund. Het is eenvoudig gezegd een eenvoudige uitvoering van andere VMware-producten, zoals Workstation, Server en ESX Server.
Voor commercieel gebruik wordt echter wel een vergoeding gevraagd. VMware Player is gratis software waarmee virtuele machines kunnen worden gemaakt en gedraaid. VMware heeft versie 6 van Player uitgebracht.
